Recording a video stream

Postby doryonj » 27 Sep 2009 19:47

I must be stupid, but, having installed VLC, I am completely baffled as to how to record to disc a streaming internet video, such as a Youtube item or an internet sports-cast. Could someone please provide an idiot-proof step by step procedure for doing this?

View->Advanced controls

Then click on record button.

Thanks, but I still don't know how to specify the file or folder where the recording goes. I did what you suggested but cannot find the recording.

After much trial and error I managed to record a Youtube clip into a file, but there is no sound on playback! What do I do to record both the video and audio?

You can just download the youtube videos with a firefox extension, there are plenty of them.
The files you record with the record button usually go into your personal documents or home directory.

I have other programs that can download a Youtube clip; that was not my point. I was just using Youtube as something to test VLC on; eventually I'd want to use VLC to record other internet material - sports events, operas, etc. But if nobody can tell me how to get the audio recorded with the video, what use is it?

Usually the audio is also recorded. Maybe try it on a different source.
