Folders with accents in names support

Postby onurb_51 » 04 Dec 2008 19:27

Well, I noticed this problem in my Windows XP Home Edition SP2 in Spanish laptop... when I try to convert a video and select the videos folder for destination (for time, I select the My videos default folder, but, since is a Spanish OS, this folder is automatically called "Mis vídeos") no new video appeared!
I thought VLC couldn't do the job but, thinking is an english software, maybe you guys didn't expected a folder with accents (´) on it, so you didn't make tests of compatibility in that case. To prove this, I selected a folder with no accents on its name and voilá! problem solved and I continued enjoying the new videos

I beg you to add in the next version, support for folders with accents on their names, so I can continue loving your software and telling my friends to change to your awsome player.

And, if maybe you could add support for folders with japanese characters on their names, lots of people will be very pleased! thanks

For some reason when doing conversions (Convert/Save) and tick File and Browse... the foldernames like aaa´ get converted to aaa´, you can manually fix this by editing dst= path. Could some confirm this, so I can open a trac ticket?

I have a problem using LibVLC (with java using jvlc) with media having accent in their path.
Actually, all accentuated characters seems to be removed when interpreted by LibVLC. For exemple, trying to play: C:\Documents and Settings\Tom\workspace\VODPlayer\TMP\PLAYBUFFER\karaoké Bouba karaoke.mp4 result in the following error message:

Code: Select all

As you can see, in the path returned by vlc, the "é" character of "karaoké" has been removed, wich explains that file could not be found

I do not think this problem is linked to the java frontend as I've verified the java library I use to communicate with LibVLC (jna library) correctly transmit the accentuated character to the C code (see my other post on the forum viewtopic.php?f=32&t=56939&p=218855#p218855 for details)

So is there any argument I could give to vlc to allow it to play media with accents in there path? (I've already tried the "-http-charset=ISO-8859-1" option bu it do not solve the problem :( )
