Take a look to this site and check what's wrong: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-debian.html
If you can't figure, check this site: http://www.debian.org/releases/

order of releases is woody, sarge and unstable. Now it is said sarge is the most unstable ... errr. Swap the sarge to be under woody and change sid in apt-get line to sarge ... sid text is ok (as beeing sarge text atm) :)

It's not saying it's the most unstable. It says you have to know what you are doing. We don't support it, because in this fase rules are very strict for changes, making it almost impossible for us to keep a working version intact.

From debian releases page: http://www.debian.org/releases/
The current “stable” distribution of Debian GNU/Linux is version 3.0r4, codenamed woody. It was released on January 1st, 2005

The “testing” distribution contains packages that haven't been accepted into a “stable” release yet, but they are in the queue for that. The main advantage of using this distribution is that it has more recent versions of software, and the main disadvantage is that it's not completely tested and has no official support from Debian security team.
The current “testing” distribution is sarge

The “unstable” distribution is where active development of Debian occurs. Generally, this distribution is run by developers and those who like to live on the edge.

The “unstable” distribution is called sid.
