VLC 1.0.2 and subtitles

Hello,

i've just update VLC 1.0.1 to 1.0.2 and now i can't choose the font for my subtitle.
the "choose" button in preferences/Subtitles & OSD/display setting/font doesn't work.

Same problem here (VLC 1.0.2 64bits)
But It's just with the simple view.With the advanced view it works like a charm.

I have an issue with subtitles in VLC 1.0.2 (64bits & Universal), both on Leopard 10.5.8 and Snow Leopard 10.6.1

Problem :
The subtitles display is good for about 20 seconds then the font changes and unicode characters are not displayed properly.

Conditions :
Happens with any .srt file.
Happens with both default font and custom font.

What I tried :
Tried to delete preference files, did nothing.

I have the same problem here and changing the subtitle engine doesn't make any change, freetype2 is same and "dummy rendering" simply doesn't work...
And the problem isn't the .srt because the graphic bug happens too with an english .srt

Same problem here, I did try to play a bit with various encodings an stuff just in case, with no more success ...

I tried to run VLC with the Terminal, here is what I got :

The last line is *i think* probably the source of our problems, where is supposed to be the fontconfig file ??

I had the same problem. Looking into the messages window I discovered that the font change issue happens when the VLC finishes building fontdatabase, as described:

freetype debug: Finished building font database.

Anyone found a fix for this?

I've no problem with subtitles' fonts, but there is a problem between 1.0.2 and encoding, as you can see on the second snap of a previous post. I tried several encodings and none matches. And the question is simple : with VLC 1.0.2, french .srt can't be displayed with the correct special characters. With VLC 1.0.1 (it was a good idea to keep the archive), all is working without having anything to do.

Update : What I said was wrong, and I see the changes of font, and for some of them, accent characters are correctly displayed. So it's not a, encoding problem; it's the same as it was already told.

But I wasn't wrong when I said that going back to 1.0.1 allows to see the video with its subtitles. In 32 bits mode, but readable.

Ah merci, personnellement j'utilise Helvetica Neue, après le problème est la taille relative des sous titres par rapport à la vidéo, donc sur un épisode de série de petite taille ça rendra toujours "moche" alors que sur un film en haute résolution le rendu est nickel

I prefer to watch my movies in original version subtitled and undubbed,

and the only software I know that could :
- display HD subtitles on SD movies
- display them in the black bottom border instead of bottom of the video

is Media Player Classic,
and it's Windows only. Crap.

Any solution of this issue made by the VLC team?, i guess that this version is an Alpha release because it has several bugs, the most important bug is subtitle encoding, is not working, i have tested in many computers and i have had the same results.

Basically the main bugs are: subtitle encoding characters, Font change

Question: Its supposed that the 64 bits version has better performance than the 32 bits version, or this release is only for compatibility reasons? i can´t see the difference.

Altough my problem is bit different, I'm not gonna start new thread.

My subtitles look like this:


First few lines of subs look ok, then it turns like in picture. This happens with VLC 1.0.2 and OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.1. Same thing occurs with .sub or .srt subtitle formats.

Should have looked page two also, Uppis seems to have same problem. Reverting to 1.0.1 seems to fix problem.

Seems like a bug in the 64bit version of VLC 1.0.2. The 64bit port uses a different font renderer (the same the win32 and linux ports use) compared to the 32bit builds, which is why there may be different bugs. I encourage you to test the 32bit variant of VLC 1.0.2 and see if it works for you.

The encoding of subtitle shows fine for about 10-20 seconds, and afterwards it's turns to "gibrish".
Is there any fix for it that i can apply ?

I read some reply saying some nightly build fix it, but not sure which file to download.
Please advise.

The VLC 1.0.3 nightly still crashes opening any subtitles in 64bit mode when running on my 10.6.1 OS X install.
