I thought that vlc didn't use ffmpeg but its own compiled codecs, thanx for the info though.
That's about your used Linux version of VLC. So check your Linux package management(updater) and update package with ffmpeg.
Or check here http://ffmpeg.org/download.html

Hi,

Just Uploaded parsley_sound-ease_yourself.mp3 to http://streams.videolan.org/upload.

The file cannot be played in vlc (though it plays fine in winamp).

using Ubuntu 9.04+ vlc 0.99, vlc gave the error VLC does not support the audio or video format "mlp".
In V1.0.1 it simply won't play the file (no error issued).

seem to have trouble uploading the files - i now get an instant message saying 'The file ease_yourself.mp3 has been uploaded" but when viewing ftp://streams.videolan.org/upload/uploads/ it seems that an entry was created without any size stats (and file named ase_yourself.mp3.txt was created).

Could you share via Rapidshare or Megaupload (or any similar service)?

Well, VLC doesn't support mlp in .mp3, sorry.
And I don't know the spec for that.

It's not MLP it's a MP3 file at 192 kbps but it's tagged with both ID3 and APEv2 tags. There are even Replay Gain informations.

Looks like some players can deal with both tag formats (foobar, MPlayer, MPC-HC) but some other ones cannot (WMP, VLC).

I'd wish to know how this file has been created and which apps have been used.

I'm afraid I cannot assist with that - did not rip the file myself.

A bug needs to be filed for that.
