Video protection

Friends,

I would like to publish a personal video to Internet (any format) so it will be public, but only someone with a password will be able decode and to play it.

We all know that video protection is something prone to fault as soon or later coders are able to crack the protection mecanism.

Despite this , what would be the best way to protect my video reducing probability of some downloading and decoding?

Would this way be compatible with VLC? Streaming could be supported? What would be the drawbacks?

Can't you just encrypt the file with GnuPG or any other encryption system?

First, thank for your reply.

I would like to minimize the change of having people copying my file and spreading over internet. This is why I would like to have the decryption done inside the player's kernel, what should be harder (Am I correct?) to crack.

It's just as easy to crack unless you have a trusted computing environment.

I would say that I have a resonably trusted computing environment. The target is to minimize the chance of a standard user to get play the video with a standard player... I agree that a good developer will always be able to decode the file after spend time reviewing the executing path with a disassembler. But one point: decode the file you would need to know the algoritm used to encrypt it. I mean, you would need to have access to the player software, do you agree?
