Windows 7 RC Stereo to 5.1 Upmix

Hi guys,
I'm using Windows 7 RC 64bit and I'd like to have surround sound for my stereo video files.
I know that it's possible, because I had this feature activated the whole time, when I was using Win XP.
How do I activate it? Or do I need a plug-in or something?
And yes, my sound drivers work correctly, because I can watch DVDs in DD 5.1 with any given app, even VLC.

It would be terrific, if someone had a solution!

For windows, try to look at Soundcard preferences, of course depending on the type of soundcard chipset/drivers you use. (I use Vista to look for config location, i guess win7 has same location, since newer windows version isn't that new, it's more a marketing bling/hype) :
Control Panel(classic) -> Sound -> select analog playback device(speakers) -> Configure -> select 5.1 surround
or
Control Panel(classic) -> Sound -> select used playback device(analog or digital) -> Properties -> Enhancements
maybe that works.

If you have a Amplifier with 5.1 speakers, maybe the Amplifier support upmixing, like Logic7.

thanks for your help, I finally found the option.
For anyone who has the same problem:
Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Sound->Speaker Properties->Enhancements->check "Fill Speakers" and "Subwoofer Management"
