I'm at the end of my rope!

Postby floridapossum » 07 Aug 2009 03:57

I have been using Vista and VLC for well over a year. Never one problem. A few days ago, I was using VLC, left computer and came back several hours later. Now VLC has no sound on any type file. I have checked everything I can think of. In addition to this, I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it at lease five times. I tried older and current versions. NOTHING WORKS!
Does anyone have any idea how to help me?

Rename vlc.exe to vlc2.exe and try again.

Worked like a charm! You just made my weekend, and possibly my BFF list. :D
Now what exactly did I do?

Rename vlc.exe to vlc2.exe and try again.
Can you explain this?

It is Windows Vista audio mixer. It sometimes mutes single application permanently and because it identifies the applications by its filename, renaming helps. Personally I haven't ever seen this issue, so I have no clue what causes audio mixer to go haywire.
