VLC cannot fast-forward downloaded streaming video

Hi

I've experienced a problem using VLC 1.0.0 on Ubuntu 9.04.

VLC cannot fast-forward these downloaded streaming video files:
mms://ondemand.msmedia.zdf.newmedia.nacamar.net/zdf/data/msmedia/zdf/09/07/090709_raketenmann_his_vh.wmv
mms://ondemand.msmedia.zdf.newmedia.nacamar.net/zdf/data/msmedia/zdf/09/07/090717_langenacht_afo_vh.wmv

The playback stops immediately resp. VLC is closing itself when you try to fast-forward.

I've downloaded the streaming video files with SDP Multimedia running in Wine.

Today, I've updated to VLC 1.0.1.

It seems that VLC 1.0.1 is no longer closing itself when I try to fast-forward, but ...

... while playing this downloaded video in VLC ...
mms://ondemand.msmedia.zdf.newmedia.nacamar.net/zdf/data/msmedia/zdf/09/07/090717_langenacht_afo_vh.wmv

I've fast-forward to around 30 minutes and instantly my Core 2 Duo Notebook running Ubuntu 9.04 was at full capacity - until I did a reset after 5 minutes. The complete system was blocked. Even the gnome-clock has stopped responding.

Works fine on seeking on WIndows on VLC 1.0.1

Unfortunately, fast-forwarding the specified video files doesn't work well on ubuntu 9.04.
VLC 1.0.1 takes a huge amount of CPU power, too much for my notebook with Core2Duo @ 1.8 GHz and 2 GB RAM.

Today, I've started VLC 1.0.1 in the terminal, did a few tries to fast-forward a downloaded video stream from here and got a bunch of error messages within the terminal:
