no video in FLV conversion output file using v 1.0.0

When I try to convert .FLV video files to .WMV the output file is audio-only using vlc media player windows v 1.0.0.

This happens regardless of the "keep original video track" checkbox setting in the video codec tab of the profile. I have not chosen anything from the Tools menu or changed any preferences from the defaults there.

I would like to know if I am using VLC correctly and, if possible, to find a reference for working examples of the "profiles" configurations for different types of video output, e.g. mp3, avi, etc.

Here is what I do:

open vlc (this was downloaded a few days ago, maybe July 15)
from menu, select media > convert/save
on "open media" panel, click add... > browse to input file (file has previously played ok; have tried with several different files)
(did not use subtitles or change "show more options" settings)
on "open media" panel, click convert/save
on "convert" panel, use browse interface to enter destination filespec as [path\filename].wmv
(usually do display output [not]; if display output [x], then only audio is played)
select profile="Video - WMV + WMA (ASF)"

settings on profile tabs are defaults, except I have tried with/without "keep original video track"...

player activates briefly if display output [not] or for entire file duration if if display output [x]

output file size is about 10% of input file and plays ok as audio

Am I doing something wrong here?

Also, as i may have changed them while experimenting, what are defaults for profile "Video - H.264 + AAC (TS)", or how do I get defaults back?

There are no messages. The process completes as if everything were ok, but the newly created .wmv output file is audio with no video, as if I had wanted to split out the audio. The .flv input file is not affected by any of this and continues to play normally.

clarification...

as to "player activates briefly" after hitting start, seconds countdown is displayed.

as to "...if display output [not]" seconds countdown during conversion is pretty brief, maybe 10-15 secs for 4 minute file; "if display output [x], then only audio is played" for complete duration of .FLV file

There are always messages, set verbosity to 2.

i'm experiencing the same problem: no video, audio seems to be ok. The process starts but ends after 34s while the file is around 9min. Same if I try to convert it to wmv.

Does the conversion work if you use TS something profile?

I get the same error with VLC 1.0.1. There is no video stream in the output file, regardless of the conversion profile I use (I've tried all the built-in ones and tried creating my own). I've also tried two different .flv files, both with h264 video encoding. I seem to be able to transcode other input streams OK (the mp4a audio stream from those .flv files is also transcoded fine). I can also view those .flv files in VLC without any problems.
