VLC video on top

Postby justinsmith2009 » 18 Jul 2009 00:37

Hello,

I am running firefox in kiosk mode and launching a vlc video through a script. However the video goes in the background and does not stay on top even after using --video-on-top.

I am running xfce window manager and vlc 0.9.9. Can anyone tell me how I could fix this ?

Thanks,
Justin

There is a known bug when using OpenGL. But I am not sure thatc video on top can work at all from inside Firefox

Quick Correction - I am launching VLC through a shell script, which is called from another application. If the shell script doesn't have focus, VLC video doesn't have focus, if the shell script has focus, VLC will have focus. This is irrespective of whether I use video-on-top or not.

Focus is a matter of window manager policy. It is considered bad practice for an application to try to override it, not to mention that it usually does not work right. Not a VLC bug.
