@lordbath: Does it happen with all videos?
@willwinuk: probably a OS X 10.6 issue then.

@willwinuk: This should work in your OS build, but make sure that you remove VLC's preferences completely. Delete both org.videolan.vlc.plist and a folder called "VLC" in ~/Library/Preferences. If it doesn't help, give the kind of Mac you're using and its graphics card here please.
@loardbath: Just delete your prefs please (see above).

The Core Animation video output is not supported within VLC.app. It is used by other sub-projects of VLC and kind of coaccidently part of the normal distribution. IMO it should be hidden to not to confuse users :)

Could you provide the Mac model and video card being used?
Providing logs, messages, configuration info (VLC, OS, Hardware) and a clear explanation of the issue always helps the problem solvers help you, even if they don't end up solving the issue. Just think what you would need if you were solving someone else's problem. Additional: Always looking for eager and capable MacOS X developers to join the VLC team - for more information see here.

Uh is it a Mac mini, iMac, MacPro, etc and what was the release year of the model? The more information you provide us the more we can help you.

If you really are having trouble identifying your Mac model, these two links may help:
- http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how_big_ap ... drive.html (look at the model identifier)
- http://mactracker.dreamhosters.com/ - its freeware, but not open source.

Also, is this issue only limited to VLC?
