VLC audio or video playback speed fluctuates

Hi!

Up until yesterday I was using VLC media player 0.9.4 in WIndows XP. Today I downloaded version 1.0.0.

In both versions, regardless of whether I'm listening to audio or watching video, the playback speed is always fluctuating, which is bizarre, not to mention that it destroys the feel of any song. The playback speed sounds like it's going from between 97% normal speed to 103% normal speed (those are guesstimates) and back, about every minute or so, in really long cycles, with the speed always in flux.

This only happens in VLC, with every type of audio or video file and every codec I have tested so far, and does not happen with any other media player (WinAMP for .mp3, Applian FLV Player for .flv, WIndows Media Player, etc.)

I searched for this and did not find anything. Any info would be really helpful. thanks for your help.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I made some audio test files, which you are free to use in your thread as you see fit. I used a minute-long harmonic sequence of tones and played it first in VLC, then in WinAMP, then in both together. In that last file, you can really hear the overlapping differentials in speed, as WinAMP plays the file properly and VLC fluctuates.

I think it's the same problem I have (see viewtopic.php?f=14&t=61905) and so I tried this trick too but it didn't help either. And the messages are still there:

Tried the latest version 1.0.1 - still the same.
No solution yet? No ideas what could cause the problem?

Just found another thread about sound problems (viewtopic.php?f=14&t=62980). People tell they have a realtek sound chip like me. Maybe it has something to do with it.
