V4L in VLC stutters when using transcode in 0.70

Postby macleajb » 06 Jan 2004 19:35

Hi Folks,

I was sure in the past I could stream (udp:multicast) from my V4L cards at 640x480 (NTSC). Now, using Fedora Core, Linux 2.6.0, and VLC 0.7.0, I can not stream above a 320x240 sized picture without ffmpeg choking and saying it is falling behind, and the stream basically stopping.

V4L on it's own displays great, but once I add transcode, the encoding seems to crawl to a halt. On a second machine, I can use vcodec=MJPG and get some video at 512x384, but on this machine I am testing now, MJPG does not seem to even work.

In both instances I have installed the available RPMs and I believe both machines are similar in setup.

I tried the ffmpeg from CVS, but VLC seems to have some close requirements to the 0.4.8 release? and won't compile with the CVS version :(.

Any pointers greatly appreciated,
JES
