mp4 over https on vlc stops playing after 1 minute

Over http the mp4 file plays fine. When i input the same mp4 file over https the file stops playing after a about 1 minute. Is this a gnutls module issue or some parameter settings. I am using VLC 0.9.9a Grishenko(Intel) on MacBook 10.4. CPU and Network usage seem to have plenty of headroom.
