Web cam problem

Postby Soundhalo » 09 Jan 2005 21:55

I am trying to use my web cam with VLC version 0.8.1 but I can't get it to work. I open the capture device under direct show and select my video device name from the drop down list and then press ok. The light on my webcam then comes on and it appears as though vlc is going the open the live feed from the camera. But nothing happens. I can then go the view and open stream and media info and all the video and audio information is there as if everthing was working correctly. Futhermore, when I close vlc, the light on my webcam remains on and becomes nonresponsive. This can, shortly there after be followed by a blue screen.

My Bios has been updated to the lastest version and I have tested the webcam with netmeeting and it works fine.

Does anyone ahve any idea want the problem could be?

Do you select the "Device properties" checkbox? You should do that to set your Webcam to a valid set of options (video size, etc.). Otherwise the camera may be running with "indeterminate" parameters for the video output -- invalid video size or chroma output.
