Windows 7 64 bit pixelation

I also have the pixellation problem. I run OpenGL and it seems to be better but it's no match for the default windows media center in Windows 7. Hopefully someone can work up a fix because my subtitles only work in VLC

Windows7 + 88x_2_123_27056_WHQL (Nvidia driver) give me the pixelation effect. When I use SMPlayer all is fine -- you might give it a shot until this issue is worked out.

I've resolved this problem using the compatibility mode: right click on vlc.exe , compatibility and select windows xp sp3 mode.

I hate to be that pain in your lovely developer ass, but this problem still ain't fixed for me.

Now I'm on Windows 7 RTM x64 with my Radeon HD 4850 shiny updated driver, and I stil have this problem. OpenGL or compatibility is a workaround, but I'll love to go back to default output module.

Moreover, I have the same problem on my notebook (Windows 7 RTM x86 and GeForce FX 5200 GO) and I won't get updated driver here

Can I hope this will be fixed sometime soon? I really (really!) love VLC, and I'd prefer to don't go search for another player.

Since installing Windows 7 32bit have noticed how fuzzy videos are.

Today i tried Windows Media Player and the picture was OK, as it was when using Vista.

Did some Googling and it appears that what i am experiencing is common for Win7 users.

Installed GOM Player. Vidoes play perfectly. I believe GOM provide their own drivers.

Anyway, my guess is it's not the nVidea drivers which are the problem. Likely it's the drivers within VLC which need sorting out.

If this is the case, then i hope they sort it out asap. GOM is looking pretty good right now and may seem better the longer i have to use it.

VLC is an excellent piece of software but one has to use that which works properly.

GOM doesn't install any drivers.

The issue is in display adapter drivers. Almost all Windows 7 display adapter drivers seems to have problems when YUV textures must be scaled/stretched.

when installing GOM it goes thru a configuration wizard
there is a 'Codec Setting' section where it asks whether you want to choose GOM Players built in codec system (recommended), in particular, use the internal video and audio codecs. I selected Yes.

Off a web site comparing VLC and GOM it states the following:

"GOM’s own collection of codecs is very impressive and saves you the hassle of finding them all yourself. Plus, I’ve found that if a file needs a new codec, GOM will get it for me without any headaches. This is one of the best parts of GOM Player."

To date, the only program which will not play AVI files on my pc correctly is VLC. This leads me to think VLC is the problem, not the adaptor drivers. If it is the adaptor driver then maybe VLC needs to supply/use its own driver (like it appears GOM does) instead of waiting for nVidia to sort it out

thanx for your great work and this little nice app.
But i refuse to use VLC anymore, seems like you are chasing the buildnumbers like intel and amd did chase GHZ numbers.
For example, there is a little but realy annoying bug, known for i think just a year but never got fixed and everyone knows its there.
Right, the add to playlist bug. everytime you add an item to playlist it play`s it instead queuing.

With 3 other players playing video files OK in Windows 7 and VLC not on my PC (with nvidia card/drivers), methinks it’s a VLC problem (happy for someone to explain/show otherwise).

i seem to be one of the few ati users here, and the problem was solved by switching to open gl rendering, and it doesn't break aero! i have windows 7 build 7077 and catalyst 9.9. the only problem i have, is that uber high bitrate h264 videos tax my cpu twice as much as the default mode. my 3.6ghz amd dual core cant handle a 28mb/s 1080p video with de-interlacing, despite me having an overclocked 4830. i think most blu rays are half that so whatever. frame rate jumps between 30(that proper frame rate) and 22.

VLCs H.264 decoder doesn't support hardware decoding and it doesn't support multicore decoding either.

really? that sucks, but it doesn't matter. i guess im lucky i have a fast cpu, i feel sorry for atom users! but I'd say vlc does a good job decoding a 28mb/s file with one core and no hardware acceleration PLUS filters. the video plays fine without de-interlacing on, but i cant stand scanlines.

Using now the 190.62_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_english_whql driver - Win7 64-bit via MSDN. The problem still exists for me.
However I found out that it is resolution dependent. I do not have the pixlation effect when my computer is connected to the projector @ 1280 x 720.

Switch to OpenGL fixes pixelation for me; I only notice the pixelation when the video is being stretched, though. (Win7 RTM x64 Ultimate)
I'll just try to find more hi-res videos until an official fix, as the switch to OpenGL does not show the fullscreen controller. (For me at least.)

open GL does work fine for me too on win7 64x
But as daniel said, we can't see the full screen controls AND the most annoying thing, when you switch to the next video, the fullscreen is disabled :/
Any quick fix to keep the full screen when switching video?

i also could use direct x but the screen blacking in and out and aero killing is annoying..

Direct3D issue is something I cannot fix. I tried different texture scaling modes, strecthrect scaling modes, different FOURCCs/textures, and some random stuff. So I cannot figure out what part of the code is causing the issue.

I am on Win7 x64 an using an ATI Video Card with the latest driver 9.9

I have this pixelation, too. But only in VLC. I could use the OpenGL workaround, but then taken screen shots have the wrong color (I think inverted).
The pixelation is independent of the filetype but i think deinterlaced material (progressiv) doesn't have this pixelation.

this is unacceptable, all players work fine, why only does VLC do this? you smart people need to work on this now. its not windows fault unless they did it intentionally because they hate VLC. one of the codecs used needs to be replaced with one that is compatible.

Same problem vlc pixelation in windows 7 x64 RTM with all critical updates downloaded from ... internet and not windows update with the latest nvidia display driver ForceWare 191.07

The only solution worked for me is to change it to OPENGL video output ...... with MS media player, classic media player and GOM player i have NO problem with the video output to directx9 !!!.

Well sorry videolan guys but this is NOT a problem of windows 7 or ati and nvidia display drivers it is YOUR problem something is wrong with VLC player and u should try to find a solution ......
