issue about the vlc transform function

Postby eric.gl.CN » 16 Jun 2009 11:00

I try the transform function on vlc-0.9.8 and vlc-0.9.9. Both of them have little problem.
When the play the transform function, the screen will not display the picture quickly(the response time is 1s when I play a rstp stream from the internet) and has some green color on it.
I think this is not perfect for the vlc, right? Wish some can solve this bug....
and I want to ask if I want to fix some source code on this problem, which part of source code will I concentrate on?
the transform.c implete the transform function, right? and which file implete the output function?

yes, I mean if I take the transform function, then the display picture will have some green color in it. And after a while ,
it will be normal.
everytime I take transform, the problem comes.
I think it's the bug of transform function.

plus: I play the .avi file.

You have some sample stream and options we could use to replicate the issue?

hi,It is easy to do. use the vlc to play a xxxx.avi file and click the "show extended setting" button. In the "Adjustment and Effects" dialog, choose the "Video Effects" tab, then choose the "Transform" checkbox.

then the image will be ratated by 90 degree cause the transform filter. but unfortunately, it will display the picture with some green color in severals seconds, after a while, it become normal.

You also get something like that to VLC message log (Tools -> Messages... and set Verbosity to 2) when you apply the transform filter?

I have see the source code in the vout_output.c ,but I find nothing suspect for this problem, cause the malloc method used is right? is it have some relationship with the picture structure' time property?

and I ask a another problem. it's about the memory leak in vlc.

I used the axvlc.dll in IE to diplay a rtsp stream for 12 hours. and i find the IE used memory is 180M and virtual mem is 850M?
it's a big problem, how can I fix it? is there any tools can be used as the VLC's developer use it to develop the software?

thanks for your help

If you get those avcodec errors/warnings, then it isn't vout problem, but architectural issue (decoding starts from wrong place).

It cannot be fixed without code changes. I will open open trac ticket for this, once I test few options. If I haven't pasted trac ticket number here by tomorrow, reply to this thread so I won't forget it.
