mpeg2 playback colors mostly wrong - very blue

Postby rocket888 » 04 Jun 2009 22:40

Just did a quick test of vlc-1.0.0-rc2-win32.exe which I just dloaded.

All the colors seem to be wrong. It didn't matter if I used my old configuration or let it create a new one. The colors are all bluish.

I'm running this on a windows 2000 system inside a virtual vmware machine, but I don't think this is an issue, since pre v1.0.0 versions work just fine.

The files I am playing are all mpeg2 files. Haven't tried anything else since this is such a complete showstopper.

I tried searching for a related post before posting but surprisingly I didn't find anything. Apologies if I missed someone.

Ok, I see, I need to set it up using openGL mode, for the colors to be correct.

If I revert back to 0.8.6, my prior version, this was/is not necessary. in particular, I can use direct3d or direct-x mode with the older version.

I also see that v 1.0.0-rc3, which I just tried, seems much more choppy in openGL mode than before.

Again, I'm still trying this out inside a vmware virtual machine and I don't know what video hardware it simulates nor how it deals with my multiple monitors with multiple video cards.

Sounds like you should try updating your DirectX installation and video drivers.

From experience what he is describing fits in with the blue and red colour components being swapped around. I see this also in the git master (1.1.0) when compiled with cygwin.

I am also having the same problem.

I am using 1.0.0-rc4.

If I stream without Activate Transcoding it streams (via HTTP) without a problem and comes through as the correct colour (only problem it uses 5% of the network adapter per connected user). If I activate transcoding the stream ends up at the client all tainted in blue.

Is there anybody who has sorted this out ?

This is problem is really frustrating. Has no-one been able to get this working ?

I really would like to get this fixed and reduce the load on my streaming servers.

We have no real windows developers atm, so I don't think this is being worked on.

Please file a bugreport at http://trac.videolan.org/vlc
