timeshift temp-files possible to playback?

Postby edwart » 28 May 2009 13:34

Hello,

Is it possible to playback timeshift temp-files which are copied to an non temp-direcotry?
i am using the vlc 1.0 rc1 player.
i am playing an live-TV stream (RTP) and use "pause".
After a while local temp-files are created (ca 50 MB) for the timeshift: for example "vlc-timeshift.5000Z0"

i am coping these files to a non temp-dir and want to playback these files.

Is it possible to playback this temp-files? what i have to do to playback these files?

Thank you for your help
best regards
edwart

I just tried this with the temp files created while timeshifting DVB-T; the files don't play at all and the timer does not run.

Then there should be a way to playback them. Is there are short sample file you could share to us? (I don't have DVB device, so I can't duplicate the sample stream)

Yes (mplayer is able to play these files...)

Here's a small (804 KB) sample:
http://rapidshare.com/files/238938031/v ... 4XLEC.html

This is what MediaInfo has to say about this particular file:

Code: Select all

General Complete name : vlc-timeshift.14XLEC Format : MPEG Video Format version : Version 2 File size : 804 KiB Duration : 960ms Overall bit rate : 6 861 Kbps Video Format : MPEG Video Format version : Version 2 Format profile : Main@Main Format settings, Matrix : Default Duration : 960ms Bit rate mode : Variable Bit rate : 15.0 Mbps Width : 720 pixels Height : 576 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16/9 Frame rate : 25.000 fps Standard : PAL Colorimetry : 4:2:0 Scan type : Interlaced Scan order : Top Field First Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 1.447 Stream size : 1.72 MiB (219%)

It seems that VLC misidentifies the file. Mplayer plays it without sound (Media Player Classic only plays the sound).

* status changed from new to closed
* resolution set to wontfix

Those temporary files are using an internal format and exist only to avoid cluttering the memory. They are not meant to be played.
I guess it's not really a problem then... but it would be nice to be able to somehow save the timeshift files..
