Spatializer does not take effect Until ---

Postby survivor24y » 29 May 2009 12:57

Greetings,

Version used is 0.9.9 operating system is XP SP3, default sound is motherboard's Realtek HD, 2 Gig RAM, good disk space, cpu is AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual core 5200+ at 2.6Ghz. Hope that is sufficient.

I noticed the following minor problem when playing individual songs. Open VLC, select Media, Open File... I do not know if the problem exists when using a playlist for having selected the playing of a folder.

Select the first song and maybe just at the beginning of the song Go To the Tools, Audio, and TICK (select/turn-on) the
audio spatializer, adjust controls as desired. (I "do" like the enhancement.)

If the song is stopped or completes/ends then use Media, Open File... to find and select another song. It will start to play,
and does play. BUT --- here is the problem (minor) now.

Whereas the Spatializer should already be active/on, for this song it is Not In Effect (not working). UnCheck the box
and then re-Check it (Tools, Audio, Spatializer).... then the Spatializer becomes active/effective at that point.

I do not think that the Options are being checked before a song begins. Suggest a scan of all options before a song
actually begins playing.

I do not know if there is any other similar problems with other options, such as equalizer on/off, or video options, etc.,
but I know that this problem does occur with the Spatializer where it must be unchecked and then re-checked (on) for
it to be active for the second or subsequent songs. Easy to reproduce the problem.

Unknown if the problem exists for other o/s versions. This problem "does" exist for Windows (found with XP).
The problem occurred with playing .FLV file(s).

I would categorize the problem as a minor one and might be able to be fixed for next release version.

I do have one additional question, unrelated to the problem but related to the program in general.

Whereas I have friends who are not very computer knowledgeable, and many do not like installing programs,
I would like to create a CD with many FLV songs (about 100 per CD) and I would like to include the VLC player
that they would use with these songs/videos. I know that I could include the actual latest copy of the installer
for windows or for mac, but considering that many of these friends are not computer savy I wondered about
the alternative.... Will the VLC Player work as "standalone" from CD disk?

I have the player installed upon my own XP computer. So I thought... Could I take all the folders and folders
as it exactly exists under my C:\Program Files\ and copy that entire collection of files/folders over to the CD
disk which would have a folder containing all of my songs that I would give to friends. I probably would not
copy the Documents & Settings\username folder items from hard disk over to the CD disk. Would that latter
folder be required if the other entact items (files and folders) were on the CD disk? Windows might create a
new/unique version of that Docs & Settings on their own computer upon first usage of the program.

My thought was that I could put all of my songs into a folder (all FLV type). The VLC Player could be on the CD
disk in its own folder named VideoLAN or similar. Then for that one CD disk I could have an autorun file
or a BAT file specifying VLCPlayer foldername (followed by possible other command line options?).

Can the VLC Player run as standalone as its current version or could that be considered for a future version?
I also realize that the normal installer possibly adds entries into the registry. VIA this implementation or usage
such registry entries would probably not be created or be able to be used.

Thanks for your attention to the minor problem and I will look forward to a response to my addition enquiry
regarding usage as a standalone program that could run directly from CD disk (without any actual installation
being required upon a person's computer).

Regards,
George

Try VLC 1.0.0-rc2.
