VLC devoid of Update-Check

Postby donatt » 27 Feb 2009 09:22

Hello

I want to distribute the VLC player with SCCM on Windows Vista machines. So that the user has nothing to do during the installation. Now I've got the job to deactivate the Update function, because only the administrator should be able to update the VLC.

I havent found an option to deactivate the Update function, but I don't know how to that.

Has anyone an idea to resolve this problem?

Thanks for your suggestions.
greetings from Switzerland ;-)

Update doesn't work in 0.9.8a, so disabling it won't change a thing.

ah okay - I haven't knew that. But I think in next versions it will be fixed- than my Problem will be there again. Isn't there an option in a config file or something?

All VLC configs are user specific. So even if there would be option to disable Help -> Check for updates... users would be able to override that option.

So you are saying that there is no way to deactivate the "Check for updates" menu item?

I don't care if users can reactivate it. I will be providing it as a virtualized application and they won't be able to change anything.

There must be a way to deactivate it?!

Thank you.

Compile with --disable-update-check.
Or set the update-check to false.

Where would I set the update-check to false? Somewhere in the registry? I'm using it on Windows XP.
