new user totally confused

Hi there
I was advised to download Vlc and having done so i get the same problem which i had originally
namely is i load a dvd-r which i know has recording on it but the cd shows up as blank
could anyone tell me what i am doing wrong thanks

If the DVD is shown as blank, maybe something went wrong when burning it.
Is it a home-burned DVD or a commercial one? I think commercial can be geographically locked and unreadable on the DVD reader of your computer. Also, but it should be okay, you can check your DVD reader against other DVD-R to check this support.
