Streaming TV

Postby av1611 » 17 May 2009 16:55

I am able to stream from my linux box to a client machine no issues.

I want to stream from my tvtuner. I can stream the video (well, I gotta start the stream then change the channel manually with tvtime, but I'll figure that part later) but I do get the video on the target PC.

The problem is my sabrent card uses audio out jack which I loop back into my "audio in" port on my sound card to get audio.

That means to stream I would have to stream the capture card video + the system audio.

How would I do that?

Use /dev/videoX ... video0 or video1 (depends on your system) and audio like the following, basically the same:

/dev/dsp (depenging on Alsa or pulseaudio,distro..)

If you dont know, found out the chip name of your sabrent card and then run

dmesg | grep "sabrent-something-something"

or

dmesg | grep name-of-your-tv-card-chip

The previous command will give you the devices configured for audio and video with your sabrent card.

vlc works fine capturing from TV-cards just try setting the correct devices for your system.

this could also help you find out:
ls -al /dev/video
ls -al /dev/dsp

good luck

I'm able to connect to my Sabrent USB TV tuner in Windows, but finding channels is nigh on impossible. I'm not able to dial in a specific digital, terrestrial tv channel, as you can't input a 7.1 in to the ATSC Physical Channel field, and using the previous and next buttons on the toolbar is of no use.

There's no way to scan channels? How do people find their local channels then?
