Network Stream = no picture, only sound.

Network Stream = no picture, only sound.

Postby fcandia » 25 Dec 2004 03:27

Hello everyone. First I want to thank all of you who have been working on this program! Many thanks and cheers!

I installed the latest windows version (0.8.1) on my Windows XP Pro SP 2 system. I open a Network Stream and select "UDP/RTP Multicast and specify the IP address and port number (port 9814 in my case) and then click OK. It immediately starts to stream sound but the picture remains grayed out. Any thoughts or suggestions as to why this might be happening? Many thanks and Merry Christmas everyone!

P.S. I have the latest drivers for my video card and this is the only version of VLC I have ever installed.

I found another posting with the same problem and Spock told the user to increase the UDP buffer to 1000ms (1 sec). Sure enough, that solve the problem.

I found that with the UDP buffer set to 1000ms (1 sec) I was still getting "late picture skipped" warning messages. So I changed the UDP buffer to 2000ms and it the picture now no longer freezes and I don't get any more "late picture skipped" warning messages. Here's a copy of the messages I now get. Is this normal?

This is correct. It's a shame you have to set the buffer so large. This indicates a bad network connection which is delaying UDP packets. range/cables/routers can all affect/cause this. You should inspect your network equipment.
Don't use PMs for support questions.

Increase the udp buffer by doing the following;

File > Open Network Stream

Check the "Caching" and set to your network. I needed to set this to 1500ms for it to work on my network.
