Pixelated subtitles

I've got a question and hope somebody can shed some light on the issue. I'm playing an .mkv file with an optional subtitle and every time I put the subtiltes on, the font is pixelated. I've tried to change the font size and the font itself, but every time I do so, it always comes back looking the same. I can take a screen cap of what I'm talking about if you're unsure, but I was wondering if this is either a common issue or it's unsolvable. I'm currently using VLC version 0.8.6a for the Mac. Well, some subtitles are not correctly rendered. This will get better, but I don't know how to tweak them in OS X. Any OS-X expert ?

I'm having this problem too, with subtitles for The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. The text appears pixellated and too wide to even fit in the frame.

I've noticed this problem mostly using the Nightly with ASS Embeded subtitles in MKV files..

A.S.S and S.S.A support is not correct in VLC. We have a summer project to resolve that.

Has there been any progress on this issue?
The rendering of .sub/.idx subtitles with the latest VLC nightly is still abysmal compared to e.g. GOMPlayer on Windows.

How come the rendering is so difficult?

I have this issue with all .sub files. Is there any way to convert them to a different format that is displayed correctly ?

Has there been any news with the Subtitles in VLC 0.9.9? I took the shadows and stuff and still don´t look good. Nothings compared to VLC 0.86.
