Complete Newb Needs Direction (repost)

Postby ciscostudent561 » 05 May 2009 00:22

I posted this in another forum but got no resolve so I'm reposting it, here, sorry for the inconvenience.

Hello All,
First and foremost, thanks for the continued support and documentation . I've been doing some research and I am really interested and excited about the possibilities of VLAN streaming. I just need guidance.
I want to converge video streaming from my TV into my Home LAN.. to experience the ability to enjoy TV every I can access my network.
I am aiming to pull the original feed from a Satellite. Then re-broadcast it over the network. But I also would like to change channels from the client device without having to interrupt feed that anyone else on the network is using.
Pretty much each client device basically having its on TV experience.

I hope I'm making sense.

Starting from scratch here, so no hardware yet.

What would be the best way to do this? What tools do I need? Thanks

(The sky is the limit in terms of finances, I just want this to operate, I am not worried about cost)

You can do this for free with VLC.
When you can play the dvb stream in VLC, you are just fine. Just restream it, so you can access it from the other computer.

Select all the frequencies you want and put them in a playlist.
Then Control VLC through RC or web interface.

Thanks for the help,
I'll do more research... checking out a few vendors.
