problems with .mkv files

when i play most mkv files on vlc media player about 3 times per video it skips back to either the beginning or several minutes back and there is about 20-30 seconds. ive tried 3 versions and they all happened the same 9.6 9.8 and 9.9 and i was just wondering if there was a way to fix this or if anyone can suggest a version that does work well with .mkvs because honestly this is the best player out there its easy to use and it looks great. any awnsers/suggestions would be greatly appreciated thank you.

i figured out it has somthing to do with playback chapters set in the video but its seriously anoying is there any way to fix this?
