Manual crop as command line option

i would like to request a commandline option to set the numer of cropped lines from the top, bottom, left and right .

something like --crop-top=50 would crop 50 lines of the top of the video, same as pressing the hotkey alt-i 50 times after vlc has started.

i know there is a --crop=240x320+100+100 option, but it delivers different results. if the aspect ratio of the left over video is odd (not 4:3 or 16:9) the colors can get weird, the video is all yellow-ish or purple/green
