If you want to retain DVD-quality you would be best just keeping the AC3 audio track, any potentially keep the video track too. However that would mean a large file size.

If you want MPEG-2 as the video format then, you might as well do no converting and just copy/extract the original video track (which is MPEG-2 anyway). There wouldn't be a lot of point in converting it, unless you want to have a smaller file in which case other codecs (such as XviD and x264) are better.

If you want to keep e.g. 5.1 surround sound audio the best thing would be to just copy the AC3 audio track (and not convert it). Otherwise, both MP3 and AAC are good audio codecs. AAC is the only one of the two which can have e.g. 6 channels, however if you intend on keeping e.g. 5.1 you might as well (as I wrote above) just keep the AC3 audio track.

Well this is what I am doing.

I am taking a fue DVDs I have of the Simpsons TV Show.
And I am going to just take the Halloween Shows out of the DVDs.

So I can put them on a DVD for me or Play around with Video Editting.

And I have other DVDs to of diferant TV Shows.

I did try to just Copy the VOB Files from the DVD and they will not play on the desktop and they are Scrambled.

But I can Convert them it work ok.
Unless when you tell me to Copy the VOB File you do not meen Right Click on it and Click Copy??????

Well if you want to just e.g. have a backup of a particular episode (as a single *.vob file) you can use, for example, DVD Decrypter (find it here).

When in IFO mode (press the "I" key) you can select the individual title(s) and make a backup of them. Go to "Tools >> Settings" for more configurable options.

I when to the link you have above and got DVD Decripter.

If I want to Just keep a VOB File as is this will take it of the DVD and De Scrable it.

But is there Settings I need to do or know?
You know like NTSC and Stereo 16 Bit sound or is that not what this does??

I am thinking if my DVD is NTSC then it will just De Scramble it so I can edit the VOB File and Play with them?????

It will bascially rewrite a VOB file with the same audio and video tracks, without and encrption etc. So if the audio is e.g. 5.1 AC3 then that should be the output too.

I am useing Exact Audio Copy to convert Audio from CDs to MP3s.

I wanted to know can I use this Program to make Audio CDs or does it just convert to MP3??

Yes you can make Audio CDs with it. However, IIRC, you need uncompressed WAV files and a cuesheet to do it. It is good for writing accurate CDs though.

If you aren't overly concerned with some of the more advanced features of writing a CD (e.g. CD-TEXT, track gap length and so on) then something like InfraRecorder should be easier:

Trying to rip a dvd on vlc 0.9.9 but it does not seem to work. Error messages are Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvdsimple://D:\@6'. Check the log for details.

main debug: starting new item
main debug: changing item without a request (current 8/9)
main debug: nothing to play

PLease help.

I go to convert/save
Chose dvd no menus
I have chosen file location
mpeg-ts is chosen, (should I use another format??)
chose save and nothing

dvdsimple doesn't work in VLC 0.9.9, nor in 0.9.8a
