Option: Always auto-fit to screen

I have 16:9 plasma tv and computer with 1024*768 resolution
I need for every movie change aspect ratio to 4:3

Option: "Always fit to screen" will be very helpfull.

Also widescreen movie can be in 4:3 box with black strips.

Option: "Always auto-crop black strips" will be very helpfull.

I second this. I frequently have large video playlists on my media center computer. It would be really nice if the aspect ratio could be forced within the preferences, and/or remembered at each start, and carried over with each video.

you can already do that.

Tools -> Preferences... (Show settings: All) Video and source aspect ratio option.

You can adjust crop from same place. And you can add those options to VLC shortcut also, so you can multiple shortcuts for VLC which use different settings.
