SinCast - a freeware front-end for VLC from Sinderon

Postby tcc » 04 Apr 2009 19:31

Hello,

I have created a front-end for VLC called SinCast that may be of interest to VLC users.

SinCast makes it easy to handle some common VLC streaming scenarios. For example stream DVD to multiple destinations and/or for on-demand access. SinCast can also re-stream the output from HDHomeRun Network HDTV Tuners :)

SinCast is good for creating "party mode" where the same music, video, or TV program is playing simultaneously throughout a house or building.

Here is a feature list:
- Support for Silicondust HDHomeRun Networked HDTV Tuners
- Simultaneous streaming to multiple destinations (push streaming)
- On-demand access over HTTP (pull streaming)
- Integrated file/folder browser
- Integrated TV channel list for HDHomeRun Networked HDTV Tuner
- Command line mode
- Simulcast Groups (saved streaming settings)
- MRU (most recently used) media path and TV channel
- Logging of :sout chain
- Windows shortcuts with the correct VLC playback string for
receiving and automatically playing streams sent by SinCast

Anyone that would like to try SinCast can download it at sinderon.com. You will find some helpful docs at the site including a datasheet pdf with screenshots, release notes, and a readme with setup instructions.

I'll be happy to help anyone out :)

That's certainly an option. Initially though, my goal is just to help out anyone that gives the app a try and runs into problems, or has suggestions.

Hi,

I have a new version of SinCast available for download. There are some nice improvements in this release including support for high DPI desktop configurations. Details below. Enjoy :)

2.0.5.21 Released 2009-04-18

- NEW: Support for high-DPI desktop configurations via automatic UI scaling and vertical scroll.
- NEW: File Browser supports horizontal and vertical resize for improved usability.
- NEW: Support for item selection by mouse double-click in File Browser and TV Channel List dialogs.
- FIX: Resource contention issue with SinCast log file that prevents more than one instance of SinCast from running.
- UPD: Installation modified for better compatibility with Windows Vista User Account Control (UAC).
- UPD: Merged individual setup scripts for SinCast VLC Client and SinCast VLC Listener into single setup script.
- UPD: Minor edits to UI text and layout for improved usability.

Better also mention that it's only Windows compatible
