IF statements in VLC's Format String

Hi.
I'm requesting a feature that allows users to implement some sort of conditional formating in VLC Format String so that the format may change under different conditions. For example, for files which do not have artist metadata, display just the filename, otherwise display in the form "{artist} - {title}".
I'm not anticipating this to be extremely difficult, however I'm not at all skilled in the correct way to do code for VLC so hopefully an experienced VLC developer may implement this is a future release or via a patch.
