variable frame rate setting in vlc

I am using vlc player 0.9.8a to play rtp stream having h264 as video codec.
Vlc displays stream properly till frame rate remains constant. When I am changing framerate of stream from server side vlc getting crashed.

How can I play variable framerate stream in vlc? Do I need to do any specific setting in vlc for that?

Did you find a solution to your problem? Even I'm looking for a way to play variable frame rate video (stream mpeg4 video with variable frame rate).

Does VLC play streaming video content with variable frame rate?
