VLC player and BBC Radio

I would like to use VL player to listen to BBC broadcasts from the web. BBC seem to insist on using REAL format and complain that the REAL plugin is not present.

Is it possible to set up VLC player so that it will play these files?

I am using Windows XP Pro (service pack2) and Firefox.

Perhaps a little more information might assist the understanding

Real Inc tends to ask a lot of money for access to its codecs, which goes against the policy of making Videolan free and open for everyone.
