Video out of interface with skins2 in Linux

Postby panana » 12 Mar 2009 10:22

So, I'm editing a new theme for skins2. The problem is that I want to have the video window embedded into the main interface, I did it with tags <Video... inside the main interface. However, when I open a video form nautilus (I use Ubuntu 8.10, vlc 0.9.4) using vlc, the video and the player opens in two diferent windows, indeed the video window hasn't borders.

The question is, is there any simple solution to this?, or is it a code bug?

I have another question, is going to be avalible the controls for the full screen mode in skins2? It would be great.

Thank you for your help. I'm wainting for release my second skin, Colibri 2.

I'm no tried yet in Windows because I use Ubuntu Linux, and, if using ubuntu with compiz, you get a pretty shadow under the skin. That will not happen in Windows. So, I think, skins2 is a very good system to get a good interface with vlc in Linux, and I think, it would be necesary to develop this section in Linux to get the same usability as qt4.

We do agree, and VLC 1.0.0 fixes many bugs on skins2, but there are a few issues still.

Can you share your development skin?

I'll upload it in no much time. But I still have to do some changes.
Can you explain me some points about the development of skins2 in vlc in the near future as you say? And, te problem of the video window out of the main interface, is it not resolved in any nightly build?

Solve the main issues, bugs in 0.9/0.8.6 is the more important topic now (like correctly changing a skin or have a skin-chooser).
Then, develop new things, if we find someone steps up.

I've got something working that solves problems of video not keeping inside video tags when changing themes or layouts.
Just needs a bit of cosmetics and I will post it on the mailing list (probably over the weekend)

Ok, perfect Erwan, I will be waiting for the answer. What do you mean with cosmetics?

I've already uploaded my new skin, Colibri 2, to the skins section. If, you have any suggestion, make it. It has been designed thinking to work on Ubuntu Linux. The only problem remaining is this, the video window out of the main window.

Cosmetics = cleaning up the code to make it good-looking

I tested colibri 2. Works fine both on Ubuntu7.10 and WinXP.

patch has been sent on the mailing list. It just needs some more time for review and fixing some remaining bugs.
If you are in a hurry and are used to compiling your own vlc, you can get the patch from this list and test it too.

OK, no problem, I'll wait (For vlc 1.0 or what version?)
Thank you for your work. That relaunches skins2 over Linux. The next step would be to have controls in full screen, but, I know coding is a heavy task, so, no hurry, but i think it would be great for future releases.
Thank you again!
