5.1 surround sound audio problem

Postby Atholl » 06 Dec 2004 22:02

I installed a new 5.1 soundcard and speakers yesterday and the tests show them all to be working properly. When I watch a DVD using VLC media player however, the sound does not play at all through either of the rear speakers (the audio setting for the speaker system is correctly configured for 5.1 on VLC). Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers, Atholl

just a stupid question, but did you use a surround encoded file to test with?

The DVD I've been trying to play has a 'remastered 5.1 Dolby Digital and Surround Encoded PCM Stero soundtrack'. Aside from that I've only attempted to play a couple of CDs. Same result, sound only through front and central speakers, nothing from the rear speakers.

I tested the speakers using the soundcard software. It successfully played a test message through each speaker.
