Some DVD subtitles are not displayed at all

Postby th0rgal » 07 Mar 2009 15:13

Hello,
While I am quite impressed by the 0.9.x serie of VLC, I have to report that not all DVDs will display subtitles, whether played in linux or windows XP.

I have a lot of DVD images on some backup HD, which I access from a samba share. Some of these DVD images, while video and sound play back fine, will simply not display the subtitles, even though the subs are selectable. The same images opened with xine-ui in linux will display the subs fine. The other strange thing is that I have a DVD image the menu of which is insensitive to the mouse action. The same image in xine runs fine.

Anybody noticed similar behaviors ? known bug ? any ideas ?

Hi,
No, the samba share that contains the DVD backups is inside a closed network.
I have made some of these images with k9copy on some debian box, and others with dvd-decrypter on winXP, even though I don't see how this can be part of the cause. I guess, without the faulty DVD image, you can hardly provide any hint as to the root of the problem. I will wait for another VLC release and be patient until then.
