Subtitles are not displayed

I don't know what's going on.
A few hours ago I was watching videos with no problem.
All of a sudden the subtitles are not displayed on the screen.
Everything seems to be OK and I certainly didn't change any setting.
OSD is activated and srt file has the same name as the avi one.
I even re-installed VLC but the problem persists (even after Restart).
Any ideas?

Reset preferences AND cache.

I have already reset preferences ("reset all"). As for the cache, I'm not sure how to reset it. I just deleted the relevant files from Library/Preferences/VLC. No improvement though.

I have deleted the installation plus every file and folder containing "vlc" in it. I have restarted and installed a fresh copy of vlc (always last edition). Subtitles keep not displaying. Please help!

Well it's solved. Maybe it has something to do with the srt file, although the same file played OK with Quick Time. Thanks anyway.

I have a similar problem. Am trying to play an avi file that has an idx file along side it. I have loaded both files up and whilst the video plays the subtitles do not show. I have gone to Video - Subtitles and selected the English one but still nothing happens. Any ideas?

Please help !
I have the same problem - the subtitles have dissapeared from one movie. Another is OK.
These are avi files on a Mac G4 running Tiger.
