VLC PlayList Issues

Postby josephfavored » 24 Feb 2009 10:39

It's me again. The last person that tried to help me, what they suggested did not work! Again, I'm using VLC on a vista machine. Whenever I try to arrange songs in the order that I want them played and save the playlist, VLC changes my arrangement. It seems like it trys to alphabetize my songs according to the artists. The person who tried to help me last time suggested that I right click in the pane to initialize the "ID" subtitle. I did that, and I noticed that VLC numbered my songs; so far so good. When I loaded the saved playlist, it didn't play the songs in the order that I specified. Can someone please tell me from start to finish: how to create a playlist, arrange the songs the way that I want them played and save the playlist to a file somewhere on my computer.

Thank you!

Please, continue discussion in same topic if the problem doesn't get solved. So when you save the modified playlist in VLC, it doesn't save the proper order or it does, but VLC doesn't play the proper order?

Similar VLC PlayList Issue

I have a similar problem as I’m using the .xspf playlists to save TV-streams (not knowing how bookmarks should be saved). These shuffle the streams each time the lists are being reopened...and then, sometimes not.
And with this, to make it worse, little blue ‘folder’ icons are added with the name of, as it seems, all the lists
previously opened, like a playlist-history archive that just keeps on adding and getting longer to no avail.
Ex.:[blue folder] C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Mina dokument\alt Spanskspråk Tv .xspf
Deleting the blue folders and saving the playlist/ -s again makes no difference.

Why won’t the name in the title bar let itself be manually renamed (even though changes saved) if not automatically changed when stream is opened ? Ex.:Title : mms://212.22.54.145:4185.

I’ve looked in playlist options under preferences, also tried to search anyway possible in the Forum and looking in both the old and the new manual without finding any information as to why.

Whenever you create a document and want to save this as a file, or bookmark an Internet page you will be prompted
to save them somewhere, these will always end up being collected in what in Windows is called a “folder”,
they will normally have a yellow colour; only, the ones occurring in my play lists are blue.
I want them gone altogether.
In French this would be “dossier” in Italian “cartella” and in Spanish “carpeta” or “cartera”.
But in front of the stream-address the icon is a globe, of course. No problem there.
Ex.:[blue globe] mms://212.22.54.145:4185. <-only, here I would prefer a name.

I'm using Windows XP Professional to an ordinary PC.

Could you post a screenshot showing this blue thingy?

So,...I’ve taken the screenshot and saved it but you’ll have to teach me on how to paste it in.
“Insert” or “Ctrl+V” doesn’t do it whether it is saved as .jpg, .png or .bmp.
All I end up with is img][/img : pushing the Img button.

Can’t you really imagine what I mean by “yellow and blue folders” and that blue icon
placed in front of C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Mina dokument\alt Spanskspråk Tv .xspf
duplicated maybe thirty times ?

Use services like imageshack if you want to share images.

Okay, as far as I’m getting it, this is the provided link :

the blue folder icons are currently up at about 390 and adding at every opening.

I assume that is the media library in your playlist panel because the default playlist is emptied when VLC is shut down. The media library playlist can be found from %appdata%\vlc folder, the file is ml.xspf

C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data\vlc\ml.xspf
is what you must mean. It’s only 1 kb. Do I erase it ? First I renamed ml.xspf and its ending, then moved it to Cache and then to the Art folder then to a totally different directory but that changed nothing at every opening.
Previous to my query with you I had unchecked “Use media library” under preferences (Playlist) to see
if that would make any difference but the “Automatically prepares files” (whatever that is) I left checked,
also tried unchecked.

VLC should recreate ml.xspf on startup if the file isn't there. You use VLC 0.9.8a?

Yes. Same problem with previous ones. I’ve been using VLC for about 1½ year.
Today I opened several of my playlists with “0.8.6f Janus” that I seldom use and have through another freeware;
no such problem there. The ver. 0.8.6f Janus obviously also permit name changes, rearranging and keeping the changes.
Saving the lists through 0.8.6f does not make the blue folder 'history' reappear in 0.9.8a.
But I’m using the latest VLC because I’m supposing it to be the best !

VLC 0.8.6i playlist functions aren't same as in 0.9.x series. That is why the auto reorder issue only exists in 0.9.x and newer.

So what happens now ? Do you report this as a bug ?
It shouldn’t stop here, should it ?
Also, if you would have some information link to solve the problem if this is a known issue.

It seems that save playlist doesn't store order of the songs same way as the playlist window shows them. Or does someone have some other issues?

Still awaiting the playlist saving issue to be fixed, an advise for any newbie saving like I do in an older player;
be very vigilant as to check if the list really has been saved, like comparing previous amount of bits of data
or just open a new player to see it the list opens. Also in my case, the 0.8.6 f often crashes.

There have been many changes, but most have been done to master, so they will come alive with 1.1.0 release.
