VLC player would be like god with this.

Postby Farow » 06 Feb 2009 22:33

since vlc player can play about ever video file out there it would be great if it could also could have a video converter program.
i have 5 to 8 different converter programs that i have to use and i was thinking it would be great if i just needed one.
(don't think it's ever going to happen since this is a video player and not a converter, but who knows when the developers make vlc perfect and get board they just might start vlc video converter project)

You are aware that VLC can convert videos...? (via e.g. "Media >> Convert / Save...").

Also, since Converting is separate to playing back a video a Convert menu probably would not be used too often - "Media >> Convert / Save..." is convenient without intruding too much into the main interface used for standard playback etc.

A Convert section in the Preferences would be basically the same as the/part of the "Stream output" section. To modify the default transcoding settings go to "Stream output >> Sout stream >> Transcode".

"Streaming / Transcoding failed:
VLC could not open the encoder."

well if it already has it would nice if there was a menu for converting

Well, one good point is that the transcoding GUI sucks. I am working on that.
