7.1 audio in VLC?

Postby pittedbull » 04 Feb 2009 20:55

Hi guys,

(apologies if this is the wrong section)

Im wondering if its possible to get 7.1 audio out of VLC?

I have some backed up blu-rays in the form on m2ts files, but VLC will not play them (video or audio). The DVD was shoot 'em up with 7.1 DTS HD audio.
Firstly, i guess, is VLS capable of playing such files?
Secondly, is there a format I can convert the m2ts files to which VLC will be happier with?

many thanks

VLC should play those files better in 1.0, but you need to test.

Thanks for the reply. I built v1.0.0 (osx) from git repos and get very similar issues when playing a 8 channel wav

I have a similar question. Is it possible to play two different tracks of audio (such as the English and Spanish audio tracks on a DVD) on different sound cards simultaneously?

I couldn't see any obvious way.

There is no open source DTS HD decoder (yet). You could try extracting the DTS audio track using e.g. eac3to (for example Dolby Digital Plus - E-AC3 - should play OK in VLC 1.0.0-git, or alternatively extract just the DTS core which can be decoded via libdca in VLC). Unfortunaely for the DTS decoding I think you need e.g. the ArcSoft DTS Decoder - there are lots of additional links on that first post.

DTS HD core track should be playable with VLC without extraction needed.

But ONLY on 1.0 (and don't expect a backport)

Oh right of course as DTS + extensions is backwards compatible to the DTS core.
