VLC Associate all media files since v0.8.6i

Postby plamengv » 01 Feb 2009 23:51

Since version 0.8.6i the windows installer version associates the media files to itself no matter what you check or uncheck during the install process.
Version 0.8.6i do not have that issue so each time I try new version, I have to uninstall it and then install 0.8.6i
Windows XP with SP2.

How do I stop VL from automatically opening every video I download? I only want it to play the files I ask it to open.

Remove VLC fully, delete preferences and cache files, then reinstall VLC ensuring that all File Associations are off in the installer wizard. You might need to restart to get icons back etc.

OK, thanks. It seems a rather long-winded process!

Yes, I am pretty sure what I am doing. Please tell me how can I be of help to track the problem. I will try to compare the registry before and after installation to find out what is going on.
