VLC and WMAL (wma Lossless) Decoder

Every time I try and play WMAL files, which are wma lossless files, i get this error from VLC.

"No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "wmal". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this."

I read online, and everyone said VLC for windows shouldn't have a problem playing wmal. Is vlc right in saying I cannot fix this?

Look at the top right corner of this page. You can see a Search box.
Type in WMAL and hit Enter.

Hi,

I use VLC to play/stream WMA Lossless files and it works just fine. The files are produced using Windows Media Encoder 9 and they have the .WMA file extension. VLC maybe does not like the .WMAL file extension.

I'm curious, what encoding tool produces WMA lossless format and assignes it a .WMAL file extension?

Because VLC is using the Windows Media DMO codec and not its internal codec.
