VLC won't play XviD .avi file while other players will

Ok, first off, I've searched the forums, but havn't found anything that can help me. I've never had any issues with files not playing in VLC before, and thus got really suprised.

Setup:
Comp1
Win XP Sp2
VLC version 0.8.6f

Comp2
Win Vista
VLC version 0.9.8a


Now onto the problem. As I've said, I've never had problems with files not playing in VLC, and all files work, except these. I downloaded Season 3 of Battlestar Galactica, and none of those files want to work using VLC. The thing is that they all work perfectly fine in Windows Media Player, Winamp, and even using Irfanview(!), but VLC won't play them. I've tried this on 2 different computers, with 2 different setups, I even downloaded all the latest codecs. These are the files VLC is having issued with:

My friend said that the file works OK. And he doesn't get any errors. So is your file OK? Because fstat error would mean that there is something wrong in file or in filesystem.

I downloaded the same files again through other means, and they work perfectly fine. I appreciate all your help and effort trying to solve this, but it must have been some korrupted files. Wierd thing is that all of the files I originally downloaded where like that, and that I still could play them using other players.
