16:9 film get's stretched to 4:3 on my tv

Postby Guest » 20 Nov 2004 21:08

Hi,
I'm a total noob at this and I read about 100 posts about aspect ratio.
So when I watch a 16:9 film it's shows correctly on my monitor but on my tv it get's stretched 4:3 so everything looks thinner. Hard to explain I hope someone understood.

If I change the aspect ration in video settings to 4:3 the picture is also stretched on my monitor. with 16:9 it's the same as with an empty box.

I'm using "theatre mode" with my ati radeon 9600 pro with pretty new ati drivers.

Still haven't found a solution to this.
So if the file is 4:3 it's displayed on my monitor and tv the same correctly in 4:3. I've tried vcd and divx files and it's the same with all so it's not file type specific. So my problem is only with widescreen files that get stretched on my tv into 4:3 while they are displayed correctly on my monitor. This doesn't happen with other players like BSplayer or Media player classic.

Try turning that off? It sounds like something that can influence AR....

In the Theatre Mode the overlay surface is displayed on the full surface of your TV screen, so AR is always the AR of your TV screen in that case. Theatre Mode sucks anyway...
