Pausing the stream

Hi. Sorry my title is a little deceptive, i'm not sure where to put this question or what to title it.

I am saving a stream of a radio show, and I have a working way to check if a commercial is playing, how would i stop saving the stream for 1-2 minutes, and then resume it when the commercials are over?
