Bug or feature?: No obvious way to send video output to a TV

Is this a bug or a feature? Perhaps the feature I am requesting is not part of the scope of the VLC program and therefore I should look for another software?

Would someone please explain the design philosophy of VLC? It seems that the designers have a single-viewer-centric paradigm. A guy watching videos by himself, in his undies in a basement. Is that the typical VLC user?

Contrary to popular belief, many computer users do enjoy people's company, and watching movies is more pleasurable if done in with friends and family. Some of them may have ample natural seatings and would rather not squeeze in front of of small computer monitor.

The real question is, why would you connect a TV to your computer, whereas you could plug in a computer monitor instead?

VLC is software. No matter how you look at it, some piece of hardware needs to connect the computer running VLC with the TV. Either you use a Set Top Box and then VLC can stream to it over the network, or you use some video cables, plug it in to your computer video adapter. In either case, it works fine with VLC.
