streaming from acq. card question on HOW TO

hey,
I want to stream from my acquisition card (BT848) and I have looked into the docs section; the HOW TO , chapter 8. My question is: are all the parameters described there necessary? Cause I don't want to stream sound.
I have tried to launch the stream with the following line
vlc -vvv v4l:/dev/video:norm=pal:frequency=15625:size=640x480:channel=1--sout '#transcode{vcodec=mpgv,vb=500,vt=400000,keyint=80,deinterlace}:std{udp,mux=ts,url=172.16.23.83} --ttl 12
but nothing happens.
The guy that maintains the Mandrake section, told me that contrary to what is specified in the docs, the v4l is enabled, at least for the mandrake install.
My acq card is working, I tested it with XdTV.
If anyone can give me an example of a valid line for setting the stream, or tell me what's wrong with mine please do.
