Stuttering audio in Vista

Postby Ftmch » 27 Nov 2008 00:24

Hello, I recently got Vista 32-bit, and it's working alright, however, I have a problem with VLC, every 5-10 seconds or so, there's a small (but very annoying) sound-stutter, it's not present in Windows Media Player, but I really prefer VLC.

I used the Combined Community Codec Pack to install my codecs, I'm thinking it might be some problem with that, but I'm not sure what other codec-pack to use in that case.

Has anyone got any advice for me?

Thank you in advance.

VLC cannot use any DirectShow or VfW codecs. So codec packs don't matter with VLC. If you use SPDIF output

Have you tried to update soundcard drivers?

Yes, I have the latest ones for my card, unless there has been another version released the last week or so.

Does it help if you disable/enable the float32 option from the chosen audio output module?

Well, enabling it for the directX output seems to have to have made the stuttering happening less, but it still happens every 20 seconds or so. :/

Ah, nevermind, it seems the stuttering was only less common in that certain file, no matter what settings I use, the stuttering is till more present in other files. :/

I'm having the same problem with stuttering glitches during video playback.
I'm starting to think this program is just garbage, based on all the issues I've had since installing and attempting to use it.

I never had this many issues with Windows Media Player. The only thing I couldn't get WMP to do, was amplify the audio of DVD's on my notebook.

What kind of video are you playing?

If you are playing video from a video_ts folder, I get stutters (and heavy hard drive activity, even in this new version) UNLESS I open my media like so:

"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC 0.8.4\vlc.exe" "dvdsimple://F:\VIDEO_TS"

(you change your videolan desktop icon path to the line above, taking care of changing your DVD drive letter and such)

If it wasn't for this line above, VLC would not be a viable solution for me. Open Directory doesn't work, it stutters. But fortunately, the link above still works! Cheers!
